Director of Bands
Mr. Thomas was named Director of Bands at East Paulding High School in 2017. He was the associate director of bands at East Paulding High School since 2014. Mr. Thomas received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 2012 and his Master's Degree in Conducting Performance from Georgia Southern University in May of 2014. While at East Paulding, he has overseen three different concert ensembles, marching band, a varsity and junior varsity winter guard, and an indoor percussion ensemble. Mr. Thomas also started a Jazz Band, Brass Quintet, and has developed a curriculum for and currently teaches a beginning guitar class. Under his direction, the program and seen tremendous growth. The Wind Ensemble has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Marching Band has won several competitions, including the Georgia Marching Band Series in 2014.
Mr. Thomas started his career in Drum and Bugle Corps at the early age of thirteen and spent four years marching with the Devision 2 Phantom Regiment Cadets. Shortly after moving to Georgia in 1994 he joined the Army National Guard in Atlanta, GA. The military band afforded him the opportunity to attend Georgia Southern University in the fall of 1995 in pursuit of his Mechanical Engineering Degree. Mr. Thomas then marched with the Division 1 Champions, The Cadets of Bergen County in 1998. After graduating in fall of 2000, he spent the next eight year working as a Mechanical Engineer at Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, GA.
In 2001, Mr. Thomas joined the Air Force National Guard Band of the South in Marietta, GA and in 2012 transferred to McGhee Tyson Air Base in Maryville, TN and currently serves today. During his twenty-four years in the Air Force, he has been deployed to serve in Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. His deployment took him to seven different countries playing music for thousands of troops at several different bases. Mr. Thomas is also the music director of Sound Barrier, a twenty-member military performing ensemble that tours all over the Southeast performing music ranging from classic rock to funk, Motown to today's greatest music.
Mr. Thomas is an accomplished trumpet and guitar player. While in the Air Force Band, he performs regularly and tours all over the Southeast with the concert band, jazz ensemble, and the brass quintet. He also performs on guitar with the rock band, Sound Barrier. During the summer of 2002, Mr. Thomas played trumpet with BLAST II, Shockwave, a product of the Tony and Emmy Award winning production, BLAST!
Prior to being hired at East Paulding, Mr. Thomas has designed and taught the marching band program at Richmond Hill High School for ten years, where they have won several competitions all across the state of Georgia. He actively works as a clinician, adjudicator, arranger, and drill designer for several programs all across the Southeast.
Mr. Thomas' professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association and the National Association for Music Education. He is also an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Josh Robichaux, a native of Houma, Louisiana, resides in Kennesaw, Georgia and is currently Assistant Director of Bands as well as Percussion Director at East Paulding High School in Dallas, GA. He graduated with an undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Recording and Live Sound with a concentration in Percussion Performance. While at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Josh studied under both Jeff Prosperie and Adam Mason. He performed with the university's Wind Ensemble, Chamber Percussion Ensembles, Steel Band, Japanese Taiko Ensemble, West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, Brazilian Ensemble, Marching Band, and the ULL Indoor Drumline.
Josh previously was the Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Director at Carrollton High School from 2008 - 2017. He spent two years, 2001 and 2002, as a member of Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps, and was a staff member for Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps from 2003-2007 and was front ensemble caption head at Odyssey Percussion Theater, a WGI PIW finalist, from 2007 - 2009. Josh is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association, Percussive Arts Society and the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Josh is one of the founders and is an executive board member of GIPA, the Georgia Indoor Percussion Association. He remains active as an educator, adjudicator, performer, and arranger in numerous Georgia music programs.
